Go on, have a go!

We make it clear in all our announcements that the Gravity Grand Prix, held each year in Cookham Dean, is a free fund raising event for all the local community to enjoy. For over ten years the principal charity benefiting from the funds raised has been the Thames Valley Air Ambulance, which is a marvelous local emergency service that has served us so well over the years.

The complexity of managing the event is taken on each year by the members of our Planning Committee, who are all volunteers. These unsung heroes need additional help to keep things running smoothly and safely, especially on the race day itself. We have always been very encouraged and ably assisted on the day by members of the venerable Cookham Bridge Rotary Club as well as volunteer support staff from the Air Ambulance itself. We have also been blessed with volunteers from among our local community in general but we find that we can always do with more help to share the various tasks that have to be covered. So if you had just an hour or so to spare, it could be a great help to us.

These tasks range from helping to set up the course for the event, marshalling along the course, spectator safety stewardship, assistance with programme selling and car parking and general help with the fund raising activities throughout the day.

One particular task that could be especially eased at the end of what is often a very tiring day for the organisers, is help with the take down operation. There is a lot to be done in taking down and packing up the equipment, as well as cleaning up any litter that’s left behind to ensure that the village is left in the same condition as it was before we started. And many hands make light work! (And help us get to the pub for a well deserved pint afterwards.)

So if you would like to be a part of our volunteer force on the day and make a contribution to this village event, please contact Paul Webb by email on info@gravitygrandprix.co.uk or phone 07801 471738
